Conclusions | In analyzing the expression of 15 candidate genes for HIV encephalitis (HIVE) by the presence or absence of major depressive disorder (MDD), we noted significant reductions in the expression of four cytoskeletal genes and somatostatin. Whereas disruption of cytoskeletal genes has been noted in HIVE, dysregulation of somatostatin has not, indicating that dysregulation of somatostatin is part of the molecular pathologic process of MDD in the setting of HIV |
