The basal concentration of cAMP was 50% lower in mononuclear cells and lymphocytes from the depressed patients compared with the control subjects. The response to forskolin was significantly smaller in lymphocytes of major depression patients than in the controls, but no difference was evident in the mononuclear cell preparations.
